About this Course:
Are you a young artist uncertain how to navigate the art world? Have you just finished art school and aren’t sure how to build your career? Did you take a break from your art career to focus on family or other responsibilities and are ready to restart it? If you answered yes to any of these questions this course is for you! Complete with action items, a workbook and checklists, this three-part course with bonus lectures is guaranteed to get you going – as long as you’re willing to put in the work.

Part two outlines Getting Your Work Out in the World through galleries, curated shows, open calls and public programs along with unconventional ideas and self-initiated projects. The bonus lecture offers advice about working with galleries. (HINT: If you only need Part two, consider signing up for "Get Your Artwork Exhibited instead. It offers the basics of Part two without the bonus content.)
Part three, What About Money?, covers strategies for pricing your work and what to expect when selling your work through galleries and direct. It also briefly touches on, and provides some general advice about, contracts, taxes and budgeting. The bonus section suggests additional ways to make money as an artist.
By the end of this intensive bootcamp you'll have the information, inspiration and instructions you need to conquer the art world with your work!
NOTE: Students of this course automatically receive a discount for the 7 Simple Statements Successful Artists Live By course. So if you're considering taking both, sign up for this course first.
I'm a huge fan of art business veteran, Alix Sloan. Her career strategy guidance and artistic direction is flawless. When I was starting out, I would have done anything for a course like this with her. There's no roadmap for entering the art world. Alix Sloan’s "Launching Your Art Career Boot Camp” IS that roadmap. - Deirdre Sullivan-Beeman, Artist
I've always had confidence in my artwork but not myself as an artist. I realize now that finding my place in the art world is just a matter of looking around and taking advantage of what’s at hand. - Patty St.Louis, Artist
Hi there! I’ve been working in the arts, as a gallery director, gallery owner, curator, consultant, private dealer, author and educator for over twenty years.
I owned my own gallery in New York City from 2008 to 2012 and continue to mount exhibitions and work with collectors and artists. I also teach Business of Art courses and lecture on a variety of topics at art schools across the US.
Working with so many wonderful artists in so many different roles for so many years I noticed the same questions coming up again and again. I realized there was a lack of practical, straightforward information available to artists and in 2015 set out to do something about it. I wrote "Launching Your Art Career: A Practical Guide for Artists" which became a #1 book in its category on Amazon and is now in it's second edition.
In 2017 I founded the Practical Advice for Artists website to continue that work through free checklists and resources, a blog, online courses and personalized services for artists.
